Volunteer Spotlight: Maren Reeder

Maren Reeder is a dedicated and hardworking volunteer who supports the Great North Innocence Project in administration and community outreach work. We sat down with Maren to learn more about her volunteer experience so far.

Great North Innocence Project: Tell us about yourself.

Maren Reeder: have lived in Chanhassen for 22 years with my husband Dave, three kids (Emma, Isaac, and Becca), and two dogs (Romeo and Rainey). For many years, I was involved in K-12 education – I enjoyed figuring out how to best help students learn science. After spending a number of years at home with our kids, I started working part-time as an analyst at a medical clinic. I enjoy spending time with my family & friends, walking with the dogs, reading, knitting, and traveling.

GN-IP: How long have you been volunteering with GN-IP?

MR: I started volunteering with the Great North Innocence Project in 2022.

GN-IP: How did you learn about GNIP and why did you want to volunteer with the organization?

MR: My interest started after reading the book Just Mercy in 2020.  I was very moved by the book and wanted to volunteer with an organization that helped the wrongfully convicted.  I looked for organizations in Minnesota that did that kind of work and found the GNIP.

GN-IP: What about GNIP’s mission and work speaks to you?

MR: The work of the GNIP is so incredibly important and anything I can do to support the organization brings me joy.

GN-IP: What has been the most meaningful part of your volunteer experience so far?

MR: I’ve enjoyed getting to know the staff and witnessing their passion for helping others. They are an incredible team and I’m honored to help in some small way.
