Join the Great North Innocence Project for a conversation about Apostle’s Cove by Minnesota-based novelist William Kent Krueger.

Set in Aurora, MN, Apostle’s Cove is the twenty-first novel in Krueger’s Cork O’Connor mystery series. The book begins with O’Connor receiving a call from his son Stephen, who is working at the Great North Innocence Project. Stephen tells his father that decades ago, as the newly elected sheriff of Tamarack County, Cork was responsible for sending an Ojibwe man named Axel Boshey to prison for a brutal murder that Stephen is certain he did not commit.

Cork, now retired, reinvestigates the case. But as Wrongful Convictions Book Club participants and other innocence advocates know, proving – and litigating – innocence is easier said than done. Our book discussion will be followed by a presentation on post-conviction litigation to address the question, “If Cork successfully proves Axel is innocent – what next?”

At the Great North Innocence Project, education is a central tenet of our work.

This discussion invites supporters, advocates, and community members to come together to ask and answer, what are the systemic and human causes and consequences of wrongful convictions?
